In November Konecranes received a repeat order for two RTG (rubber tired gantry) cranes from Luka Koper in Slovenia. Luka Koper is Konecranes’ long-term customer, already having STS and RTG cranes, as well as grab unloaders delivered by Konecranes. The cranes will be delivered by the end of July 2011. The parties have agreed not to disclose the value of the order.

Luka Koper is a public limited company providing port and logistics services in the Port of Koper. Apart from serving the Slovenian market, Luka Koper serves also Austria, Italy, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bavaria, Poland and the countries of the former Yugoslavia.
Container throughput for 2010 is estimated to reach 475.000 TEU.
The first Konecranes crane was delivered in 2002. After delivery of the recently ordered RTGs, Luka Koper has in total eight Konecranes RTGs in Port Luka.

“Luka Koper and Konecranes have a good joint history and I’m very pleased that Konecranes can again deliver new RTG cranes to Koper,” says Thomas Gylling, in charge of container handling crane sales. “With the new crane technology we can increase capacity both in the new and the existing container yard. The new technology platforms will enable further capacity improvements for the future.”

The cranes ordered are equipped with the latest DGPS-assisted technology for container yards. This includes the Autosteering feature, which keeps the crane on a pre-programmed straight driving path, thus improving safety and increasing productivity. The RTG container positioning system is connected to the port’s terminal operating system ensuring correct, real time container positioning and maintaining accuracy in inventory. In addition, the cranes will be equipped with technology for remote monitoring, predictive maintenance and remote support. The eco-efficient Konecranes fuel-saving system that will be included reduces fuel consumption significantly by eliminating high-speed idling. It also reduces noise and emissions.

The ordered RTG cranes have a lifting capacity of 40 tons. They can lift one over five containers high, and seven plus truck lane wide.
