Recently, Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT) held its Caterpillar Day in American Pavilion of Shanghai World Expo. The manager of Caterpillar China told the media that in the next five years, Caterpillar would strengthen the investment strategy in the Yangtze River Delta Economic Zone and planned to build up a supply chain sophisticated with complete parts such as research and development, manufacturing and sales in Jiangsu Province in China.  

Caterpillar Inc. is among the largest construction machinery manufacturers in the world, and the company had been operating in China for more than 35 years. With such a long history of operation in China, Caterpillar spread its products including construction machinery, mining equipment, diesel and gas engines on Chinese market, which were used in the construction and mining sites all around China. It was informed that Yangtze River Delta Economic Zone was the key base for Caterpillar to conduct production, manufacturing, development and research in China. “Jiangsu Province is an area where we had the most intensive investment in China,” said Zhu Jiming, Global Vice President and Chairman of Caterpillar China, “Here we established Caterpillar Wuxi Technology Research Institute in 2009. This year, we established Caterpillar Suzhou Co., Ltd. and bought the whole stocks of Caterpillar Xuzhou to expand the business area in China.” 

Zhu Jiming also told the media that Caterpillar Inc. at present was planning to invest in Jiangning District in Nanjing to establish an excavator manufacturing company.
