On 19th May JCB Power Systems longest standing engine Distributor Power Torque celebrated their 90th Birthday at a prestigious event at Coventry Motor Museum. The event also coincided with the achievement of 500 JCB engine sales to the external OEM industry. To mark the achievement and dedication to JCB engine sales and value added engine engineering, Robert Payne, JCB Engine Sales & Applications Manager presented them with a JCB Power Systems Distributor Achievement award.
Since taking on the JCB Power Systems franchise in 2005, Power Torque have continued to show their commitment towards the Dieselmax range with continued investment in the development of new engine ancillaries that have resulted in penetration of a diverse range of market sectors such as marine, Zone 2 for specialist “safety critical” environments and natural gas powered CHP (combined heat and power) applications.
Like JCB, Power Torque is a family owned business, the current directors are the third generation from its founder and the fourth is soon to join the company. Managing Director, Andrew Varney commented “The family factor is a big plus for a growing business, everyone within the organisation feels that they make a direct contribution to the company’s success rather than just being a number within it “.
The Coventry based company is a modern organisation with 90 years of proud history. From its original roots of retail motor dealership, the company has responded to the sophisticated changes in the market place and for the last 40 years subsequently placed themselves at the forefront of the industrial engine market focusing on added value engine technology, tailoring packages to individual OEM requirements.
Sales Director of Power Torque Jon Townley commented: “We are specifically geared to look after small to medium specialist OEM`s. All customers are cared for by the staff at the company’s Headquarters in Coventry where we have dedicated engine and parts Sales Representatives. As this industry demands all of the Sales team have a level of technical background as opposed to pure commercial knowledge. In addition to this our customers have access to the expertise of Power Torque’s in house Engineers who work very closely with the Engineers at JCB. Once a solution has been agreed with the customer and the order received the next step is for Power Torque’s production staff to liaise directly with the sales technical and engineering functions to ensure the finished product precisely meets customer expectations. Post sale there is a dedicated after sales team to ensure continued customer satisfaction.”
More recently Power Torque have increased the JCB Dieselmax engine exposure to OEM`s in the Benelux territories with the establishment of an associate company “My Power Products” based in Holland. Like its parent company Power Torque, it has begun to supply Dieselmax products and components into a wide variety of applications including generators and specialist marine working on the regions extensive network of rivers and canals.
JCB Power Systems Engine Sales & Applications Manager Robert Payne commented: “Since the very beginning of JCB engine production we have sold JCB engines to external customers. It’s a very specific market that requires dedication to the industry and all it’s varied and diverse range of applications. World class products and a high degree of business versatility in conjunction with a sound and consistent engine Distributor network are just some of the important facets required in order attract and most importantly maintain OEM`s and their loyalty to the JCB Dieselmax brand. As a relatively new engine manufacturer up against long established competitors the challenge to penetrate the loose engine market has not been easy, however we are now beginning to see the fruits of this labor. The milestone that Power Torque have recently passed is testament to this.
The engine distribution network has continued to grow; we now have coverage in Europe, Middle East and South Pacific regions such as Australia and New Zealand”.
