Doosan Group Yonkang Foundation (Chairman Y.H. Park) held a ceremony to provide childrearing costs to low income households at the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education (Acting Superintendent Lee Seong-hee) on March 11.

The childrearing expense, which the foundation committed this time, amounts to US$ 1.8 million, or US$ 442,000 per year through 2013 from this year.

Afterschool care for elementary students is a childcare program, which operates until late evening (9 pm), the time when most parents return home, to help improve the health and school performance of children in double but low-income households.

Chairman Y.H. Park said, “In order to narrow the gap in education, afterschool education programs should be expanded,” adding, “We hope that our assistance will help strengthen public education, and provide children with an equal education opportunity.”

Meanwhile, the foundation signed an agreement with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education in 2007, and has provided a total of US$ 0.9 million over the past three years. A total of 1,391 students at 162 schools have benefited from the support.
