Hyundai Heavy Industries has completed a new renewable energy laboratory at its Technical Training Center.

The renewable energy laboratory covering 100㎡ has testing and production equipment and the complete product chain for solar energy systems.

Hyundai Heavy installed 12kW solar power system on the roof of Technical Training Center to monitor and better understand the principles of solar power generation. The electricity generated by the solar system will be used for the Technical Training Center.

Despite the industry‘s fast growth, this is the first educational facility specializing in the development of the renewable energy industry in Korea.

“There is a limitation to the quality of specialists when we teach only technical theory in the normal lecture room. Now, we can raise the necessary skills for our workforce in the laboratory,” said Mr. Yoo Tae-guen, the chief of Technical Training Center.

Hyundai Heavy plans to start the education programme for employees and technical trainees from April, 2010. After the course in Technical Training Center, the experts will have on-the-job training and move on to work in renewable energy related companies.

Meanwhile, Hyundai Heavy is the only company in Korea producing the complete range of solar power products from polysilicon to modules and systems. The company also has wind turbine production facilities with 600MW capacity.
