TERREBONNE, QUEBEC, CANADA – GMR Safety, Inc., a leader in industrial safety for the material handling industry, now offers the Power Chock™ CR, an innovative product designed to help prevent loading dock accidents during loading and unloading operations.

Loading docks, long known as one of the most dangerous areas in a warehouse, need to have the appropriate equipment to reduce accidents. According to an article in Material Handling Management (August 2008), U.S. Lasers Inc., a Hazlehurst, Georgia manufacturer of laser diodes and modules for the material handling industry, stated that “approximately 260 lift truck accidents occur each day, and one fatality occurs every third day.” If one takes these numbers into consideration, the most important loading dock safety practice is to restrain all vehicles arriving at the dock. GMR Safety’s Power Chock ™ CR provides a simple, proven, and unique wheel-based truck restraint capable of restraining all types of vehicles, including trailers with lift gates.

“These accidents can be avoided with the Power Chock™ CR”, says Gaetan “Jay” Jette, President of GMR Safety. “The Power Chock™ CR provides a reliable and efficient vehicle restraint system that is independent of a truck’s Rear Impact Guard (RIG) and is a fraction of the cost of other wheel restraint systems. Our customers love its ease of use and virtually maintenance-free restraining unit with no moving parts.”

The Power Chock™ CR is composed of a large steel chock set on a wheeled base. Using an ergonomically-designed handle, the driver rolls the chock and places it in front of the vehicle’s rear wheel. The chock locks onto a grade-level ground plate to prevent trailer creep and early departure. The Power Chock™ CR’s communication system of interior and exterior building lights, sensors and alarm provides a clear message about loading safety to both dock employees and truck drivers.

GMR will be exhibiting the Power Chock™ CR vehicle restraint system at NA2010, booth 2609, April 26-29 at I-X Center in Cleveland.
