Special Interview to Yi Xiaogang

On the Military Parade for the 60^th Anniversary of National Day, China, the float “Splendid Hunan” with strong Hunan characteristics passed through Tian’anmen Square, showing the achievement and development of economic construction in Hunan to the whole nation. On that day, Mr. Yi Xiaogang—the Chief Scientist of Sany Group and Executive President of Sany Heavy Industry Group Co., Ltd. (Sany for short) was among the audience to feel the excitement and pride as the supervisor of Hunan float development project. After Mr. Yi went back to Changsha, he received the special interview to share the experience in the process of manufacturing the float.

Significant and honorable “political task”

Mr. Yi said that they were commissioned to manufacture the float used for the Parade on the 60^th anniversary day. Before this, Sany had attended the discussion about the float project organized by Hunan Provincial Government.

As the representative of new industrialized enterprises, Sany is also the leader in the field of construction machinery in China with advantages in terms of equipment and technology, which makes it natural to be chosen as the manufacturing unit of the Parade float.

Being a civil-owned enterprise, Sany not only pursues efficiency, but recognizes that the company shall have certain social value. This honorable task is the trust of Provincial government, thus Sany invested into the project of RMB 5 million Yuan to make their every effort to the manufacturing.

Sany established special team for float manufacturing, appointing Mr. Yi Xiaogang as the director and dividing into four sub-teams to take charge of chassis, control system, lifting system and overall appearance. Totally there were 18 engineers charging of design and more than 20 workers to do manufacturing. “Float manufacturing is an honorable and significant task, and all the staff taking part in this task have outstanding political sense and working ability.”

This task entitled “Sany Project” was undergone under strict confidential situation and the valuable video info of the manufacturing was locked in the insurance case of Mr. Yi.

Now this “secret” can be decoded.

·Double-drive structure to insure the power supply of float

In order to achieve zero error during the parade, Sany devised the “quadruple insurance of power”, making it the only pageant wagon operated by diesel engine and double electric power among all those wagons.

The float was drove by the diesel engine under the chassis. If the diesel engine failed, the generator would work in four seconds to drive the float with electric locomotive; if the generator failed too, the battery in the float would act; at last, if the three methods were all out of control, 20 strong men hided in the float would push the float to parade forward.

“Although the latter three driven methods were not used, we believed they were worthy as we have the responsibility to ensure the parade of the float,” said Mr. Yi. “It was the only float that adopted two-motor drive (with both diesel engine and electric locomotive as its power drive), while it was also an eco-friendly float with its emissions achieving national standard. Meanwhile, we used eco-friendly ignition-proof and fire-protection materials on the main body of the float, which cost RMB 4.5 million Yuan.”

Mr. Yi smiled when he reminded of the feeling when the float paraded in front of Tian’anmen, “I feel so proud to be a member of the manufacturing team that I didn’t want to blink until it disappeared in my sight.”

In the end of the interview, Mr. Yi showed his hope of treasuring the float. “It was familiar to me, which represented the cohesion, wisdom and effort of Sany. As it was the precious commemoration of Sany to celebrate National 60^th Anniversary, our company is planning to buy the float from the Province after the float was back to treasure up as an everlasting souvenir in Sany Museum.”
