Jungheinrich AG is operating a central refurbishment factory for used fork lift trucks in Klipphausen (near Dresden) since 2006. The number of refurbished trucks in the Used Truck Centre Dresden has increased considerably since production start; the number of employees has tripled. The second expansion stage was put into operation on 1st January 2008.

In Klipphausen, Jungheinrich refurbishes own fork lift trucks for the European market. The reason for an own refurbishment factory was the increasing number of returns - i.e. fork lift trucks that are taken back by Jungheinrich after the expiry of financing contracts. Today, about every third truck is either rented or leased. “We also wanted to avoid placing refurbishment orders on outside companies and to create less work for the workshops in our Sales organisations”, explains Ronald Ohlrogge, Head of Rental, Used Trucks and Workshops at Jungheinrich.

The Gebrauchtgeräte-Zentrum Dresden GmbH & Co. KG was founded on 1st June 2006. 25 employees refurbished a total of 600 trucks in single-shift operation by the end of 2006. The number of employees increased to 75 during 2007 and approximately 2,800 trucks were refurbished, partly in two-shift operation.

The second expansion stage was put into operation on 1st January 2008. The production and storage area was expanded from 5,000 m2 to 11,500 m2. “We expect approximately 4,500 trucks during the current year“, says Ohlrogge.

Refurbishment is carried out according to the principle of flexible line assembly and is divided into electric and IC engine trucks. Incoming fork lift trucks are checked and subsequently disassembled into their individual components. These are repaired and safety-relevant parts are exchanged. The truck is then rebuilt with original Jungheinrich parts. The truck is finally painted in motorcar quality. “It is even difficult for an expert to distinguish between a new truck and a truck that was refurbished at our Used Truck Factory”, Ohlrogge continues.

Jungheinrich is among the leading international companies in the fork lift truck, warehousing and material flow technology sectors. Jungheinrich developed into a producing logistics service provider and offers its customers a comprehensive product range of stackers, racking systems and services for complete internal logistics. The Jungheinrich share is traded at all German stock exchanges.
