One of the most successful self-erecting cranes of all time – the Potain GTMR 386 – is celebrating its 1000th delivery. The crane launched in 1989 and since then customers have taken delivery in countries as diverse as France, Germany, Turkey, Cuba, Russia and Turkmenistan.

David Havard, Potain’s global product manager for tower cranes, explains what makes this crane so popular.

“They are perfectly suited to residential construction, such as apartment blocks or hotels. In addition, customers like them for their very powerful load curves,” he said. “At 50 m, the GTMR 386 can lift 1.5 t or with a 31 m jib this crane can lift 4.1 t. This makes them ideal for moving steel formwork and concrete buckets. The GTMR 386 can transport on only three trucks and has good versatility in height and jib length.”

The crane has a maximum capacity of 8 t and a maximum reach of 50 m. Height under hook is 36.2 m. The 1000th crane was delivered to French contractor Sogea Construction.
