EvoBus, a DaimlerChrysler company, will use thirteen RAVAS-2100 pallet truck scales for checking spare part containers by weight. Some 500 spare part orders are picked daily and shipped in containers with a maximum weight of 1,000 kg.

A bracket, mounted to the side of the pallet truck scale, will hold a Symbol PDT handheld computer. The Symbol PDT is programmed to interrogate the mobile scale for the net picking weight of the lifted container. Once the order is completed, the picked weight is transmitted to a warehouse management system via W-LAN.

Recording the weight of the spare part containers serves three different purposes. First of all, it allows Evobus to check for picking errors. Second, it provides the input for on-line stock control. And finally EvoBus transmits the weight information on-line to its forwarder, who uses it for planning and invoicing.
