Konecranes has received an order in May 2007 for 10 rubber tired gantry (RTG) cranes from Malta Freeport Terminals Ltd.The order also includes 2 reachstackers and 1 masted lifttruck. Delivery will be between December 2007 and April 2008. This is a repeat order, as Konecranes previously supplied equipment to Malta Freeport Terminals in 2006. The companies have also agreed on an option for an additional 10 RTGs.

Malta Freeport Terminals, which is owned by CMA CGM, the third largest shipping company in the world, is currently increasing terminal capacity as container traffic is constantly increasing. Old RTGs will be replaced with more productive and reliable cranes to speed up operation and minimize down time.

“We are very satisfied with Konecranes’ previous delivery. Their
concept, which includes project management, fast delivery, reliable products and lowest down time, works very well. In addition their professional service is of great importance to us,” says Uwe Malezki,General Manager at Malta Freeport Terminals.

The 8-wheel RTGs have a lifting capacity of 50 ton and also have
twin-lift capabilities. The RTGs can stack one over five containers high and six wide plus a truck lane. The reachstackers have a maximum lifting capacity of 45 tons and can stack containers five high. The masted lift truck is used for stacking empty containers. “Malta Freeport Terminals, a key player in the Mediterranean region, is a very important customer to us. We are happy to be able to serve them again,” says Aku Lehtinen, Director, RTG Cranes.
