Opening Ceremony of the 20th Dealer of TMHS

 

On Nov. 7th, 2008, the 20th dealer of Toyota Material Handling (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (TMHS)— Shanghai Ho-Qian Logistics Equipment Trading Co., Ltd. held the opening ceremony at No. 515, Caoyi Road, Songjiang District in Shanghai. Leaders form Hotai Motor Corporation, Toyota Industries, Toyota Material Handling and Xinqiao Town, Songjiang District, Shanghai as well as media representatives, customers and cooperative partners of Ho-Qian attended the ceremony. Firstly, the Chairman of the Board from Shanghai Ho-QIan Liu Qingtang made the celebration speech. With congratulations to the opening of Ho-Qian, he showed expectation on the development of the company in Mainland China and great appreciation to the support and cooperation of relative leaders from Songjiang District in Shanghai. The Chief of Xinqiao Town, Vice-President of Toyota Industries and General Manager of, Taiwan attended the ceremony and expressed their wishes.   

 

After the lion dance show, six leaders respectively from Hotai, Toyota, Songjiang District and Ho-QIan cut the ribbons, which indicated Shanghai Ho-Qian Logistics Equipment Trading Co., Ltd. started to operation since then.

 

The Chief of Xinqiao Town, Vice-President of Toyota Industries and General Manager of Hotai used the soil from Songjiang and basin from Japan to plant a tree from Taiwan. After watering with a Japanese ladle, they gave the tree to General Manager Li of Ho-Qian, expecting Ho-Qian grows stronger and stronger. In addition, Ho-Qian introduced four typical forklifts of Toyota to the guests on the back of successful promotion modes applied by Toyota on CeMat Asia.

  

Before the ceremony, Chinaforklift.com interviewed the General Manager of Hotai Motor Corporation Zhang Zhongyan and Chairman of the Board of Ho-Qian Liu Qingtang, who warmly made response on all the issued.

 

I.                     Target of Hotai (Interview of General Manager of  Hotai Motor Corporation Zhang Zhongyan, Zhang hereafter)

Expand the market in mainland China due to the limitation of Taiwan market.

 

Chinaforklift.com: Hotai Motor Corporation was founded in 1947 by Huang Lei-ho in 1947. From taking trading as the premium to gain the dealership of world-famous brands such as Toyota and Hino, the company has gone through more than 60 years’ development till now. Hotai has become the leader of domestic motor market since 2002. Mr. Zhang, how do you think about the developing prospective and the target of Hotai?

  

Zhang: In the past 60 years, we faced a lot of difficulties. In the very beginning, the company even had no business due to import control. Until 1993, our sales reached more than 10,000 sets; however, it still was unprofitable. Then, Hotai conducted a lot of reform and our sales exceeded 150,000 sets. In recent years, we kept to be No. 1 no matter on sales or profitability. Our next vision is to promote the market shares with the aim to reach 40% of Taiwan market as well as to keep the highest customer satisfaction. Nevertheless, it is finite to develop only in Taiwan, where is too small, so we began planning the business in mainland China since 1997.

 

We have actively expanded the market in mainland and have achieved good performance. The eight branches set in the mainland reached sales of 15 billion Taiwan Dollars and returns of 270 million Taiwan Dollars. As mainland market plays a significant role in handling the current hard operation, our main strategy shall concentrate on the development in the mainland.

 

Due to “Three Direct Links" Across the Straits, nearly 2 million people in Taiwan has moved to mainland. Moreover, Taiwan market kept changing. In 2008, the total market capacity was only 230,000 sets, while we have reached 516,000 sets in 2005. This means that in three years, the market decreased 60%, a little similar to the recent stocks in mainland.

 

In the future, motor business will still be our core course, and we will go deep into the relevant operations, such as forklift industry to ensure our profitability and promote market shares. Our goal is to reach 40% of market shares in Taiwan by 2015 and to introduce series of innovative service continuously. In terms of mainland business, we will keep stable development to follow the pace of Toyota, expand new business market relying on our experience and know-how to create a win-win situation.

 

II.                    Cooperative Win-win (Interview of Chairman of Shanghai Ho-Qian, Liu Qingtang, Liu hereafter)

With mutual support and trust, building cooperative win-win

 

Chinaforklift.com: Mr. Liu, can you explain to us about the relationship between Toyota Industries and Hotai?

  

Liu: As is known, Toyota makes cars. Its predecessor is Toyoda which made looms. After World War II, lacks of materials was an opportunity for the construction and development of transportation tools. In 1949, the founder of Hotai Huang Lei-ho went to Japan in 1949 for the dealership of Yoklohama tires and then Toyota. Hotai became the first overseas dealership of Toyota. Till now, the two corporations have been partners for half a century.

 

The achievement of Hotai in Taiwan was appreciated by Toyota. Do you know the most vogue Toyota series—Century? There are only two sets in Taiwan, one of which belongs to our Chairman Su Yann-Huei. The car was a gift from Toyota to Chairman Su for appreciating the results of his operation in Taiwan for more than 20 years. Taiwan Hotai has set a good example for all the Toyota overseas dealers. We also hope that Shanghai Ho-Qian can be an exemplifier of Toyota dealers in the field of forklift. We are sparing no efforts!

 

III.                  Market (Interview of Chairman of Shanghai Ho-Qian, Liu Qingtang, Liu hereafter)

Expand mainland market to keep the pace of Toyota

 

Chinaforklift.com: Mr. Liu, would you like to tell us at the beginning, why you choose to enter forklift industry and expand Forklift Business of Hotai to mainland to establish Ho-Qian in Shanghai? How do you think the company’s prospective?

 

Liu: Hotai kept a long-term and harmonious partnership with Toyota. We began to distribute Toyota motors since 1949 and Toyota forklifts since 1964. During these years, Toyota has helped us a lot and greatly affirmed our operation too.

 

When Toyota began to explore car operations in mainland, Hotai followed the pace and till now there are nine operating points including Ho-Qian. In fact, Hotai has so large and tight an organization that we have to make long-term planning.

 

For example, we are in the process of defining the aim of the next year. However, it must be built on the foundation of five-year consideration. What will happen after the five years is out of the planning. We set a specialized department—Comprehensive Planning Department for long-term planning.

 

We bringing our forklift business to mainland is also a long-term goal of Hotai. We moved forward along with the goal. Thanks again for the help and support given by Toyota and Government of Songjiang District.

 

IV. Outlook (Interview of General Manager of Shanghai H0-Qian, Li Ruizhong, Li hereafter)

Chinaforklift.com: After the establishment, how will Ho-Qian make use of the advantages to take charge of the sales of Toyota? What about the partnership of the two corporations?

 

Li: Hotai keeps ‘Holding Strength, Pursue Excellence Together’ as the operational concept and expects that new corporation can take the sales mode of one channel for three channels to provide one-stop service for the customers, in order to provide the famous products of Toyota, BT and Raymond and enlarge the regional market shares.

 

It is the first time for us to enter forklift industry in mainland. If we are not able to satisfy the customers in terms of technology, we will lose their trust, so we have to rely on the sales and technological support from TMHS.
