| Toyota’s Environmentally-Friendly 8-Series Lift Truck Awarded Product of the Year by Plant Engineering Magazine |
|
|
IRVINE, Calif. (March 10, 2008) – Toyota Material Handling, U.S.A., Inc.’s (TMHU) 8-Series lift truck has recently been awarded with the silver medal in Plant Engineering magazine’s annual “Product of the Year” ranking.
For more than 20 years, Plant Engineering’s “Product of the Year” has been renowned as the industry’s most distinguished award for innovation in manufacturing products. According to Plant Engineering, it is bestowed only to those manufacturers who have created the best new ideas that make plant management better, faster and smarter.
A special panel of engineers selected Toyota from among 150 finalists for “Product of the Year,” and final award recipients were then determined by an online poll of Plant Engineering’s readers. Toyota’s 8-Series received the 2007 Product of the Year silver honors in the Material Handling Systems category. This achievement will be formally acknowledged before an audience of the nation’s leading plant managers at a gala banquet, which is slated to kick off the 2008 Plant Engineering Manufacturing Summit in Chicago on March 31, 2008.
“We are pleased and honored Plant Engineering and the magazine’s readers have recognized the 8-Series as a winner in the prestigious ‘Product of the Year’ awards,” said Shankar Basu, president and CEO of TMHU. “In the 8-Series, we have delivered an environmentally-friendly lift truck that not only reduces operating costs and enhances operator safety, but also minimizes smog-forming emissions. We are extremely pleased to receive this recognition from our customers and the material handling industry.”
About the 8-Series – the World’s Cleanest Internal Combustion Lift Truck
Toyota’s environmentally-friendly 8-Series lift trucks, which include 3,000-6,500 lb, internal combustion cushion and pneumatic tire models, are recognized as the world’s cleanest internal combustion lift trucks available. Toyota 8-Series LPG, gasoline and CNG lift trucks produce 70 percent less smog-forming emissions than current federal standards, and meets California’s more stringent 2010 emissions standard.1
The 8-Series which first rolled off the line in January 2007, also offers significant advancements in durability, ergonomics and overall cost of operation. [>> More<<] |

| Doosan Corporation acquires Korea’s no. 1 hydraulic component maker, Tongmyung Mottrol |
|
|
- Expecting to maximize the synergies of its affiliates and secure profitability and a future growth engine
Doosan Corporation is set to take over Korea’s No. 1 hydraulic equipment maker, Tongmyung Mottrol, with a view to adding to its future growth engines.
On March 5, at Doosan Tower in Euljiro 6(yuk)-ga, Doosan signed an agreement to acquire a 53% equity in Tongmyung Mottrol for the price of 104 billion won. The signing ceremony was attended by Tongmyung Mottrol’s CEO, Kwon Eun-young, Doosan Corp.’s Vice Chairman, Kang Tae Soon, and other personnel. Doosan will push for this acquisition jointly with financial investors, and will raise an acquisition fund of about 20 billion won on its own.
Located in Changwon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, Tongmyung Mottrol manufactures key excavator components such as main pumps, travel motors and other hydraulic machines, and controls the largest domestic market share of 38%. With a workforce of 370 employees, it posted sales of 222.7 billion won, an operating profit (EBIT) of 17.1 billion won, and a net profit of 13.5 billion won in 2007.
Doosan will foster Tongmyung Mottrol as a stable revenue source, and create synergies in conjunction with Doosan Infracore and Bobcat, which was acquired last year, thereby developing Tongmyung as one of its new future growth engines.
Given the current robust status of the construction machinery market, the world-class technology of Tongmyung Mottrol, and Doosan’s domestic and overseas operating network and R&D capability, Doosan expects to maintain annual average growth of over 20%, enabling it - by 2011 - to post sales of 450 billion won and an operating profit of 50 billion, and to confidently secure global competitiveness.
A Doosan official said, “Doosan will nurture as its key portfolio the business of components and technology of Tongmyung Mottrol. As such, Doosan has been equipped with the capacity to pursue both profitability and growth when the company converts itself into a holding company together with its existing businesses in the brewing, publication, and electronics industries.” He went on to say, “Since the current business structure of Tongmyung Mottrol is very stable and offers good profitability prospects, there will be no artificial manpower restructuring, and we will minimize our seconded manpower, thus maintaining the current management system.”
In the meantime, Doosan will push for 4 weeks’ due diligence after signing the deal, and finalize the acquisition work in the first half of this year. [>> More<<] |

|
|
March 10 2008
At Samoter 2008, New Holland presented the new telehandler LM1060, to lift loads of up to 600 kg to a maximum height of 10 meters.
This model was intended for use in an urban environment and in all those operating conditions when, given the limited working room available, dimensions and manoeuvrability become a key issue.
With this new additional model, New Holland Construction intends to state very clearly its intention to be a leader in this expanding market.
Characterised by a modern look, model LM1060, designed and produced in the Lecce factory (Italy), stands out for its wide cab and exceptional visibility, a fundamental feature to ensure the operator’s safe activity.
Model LM1060 is equipped with an 88 kW Tier III New Holland engine with Powershift transmission, ensuring top performance in digging and transfer also on the most difficult and compact grounds.
Permanent 4-wheel drive ensures maximum grip under any working conditions.
Ease of handling is guaranteed by three steering modes: 2 wheels, 4 steering wheels and crab steering.
The single–level manipulator together with the Flow Sharing pressure compensation hydraulic system allows the operator to perform simultaneous movements perfectly.
The long base, while ensuring the smallest turning radius on the market, also provides maximum machine stability even with the stabilisers up.

| Kalmar lifts Steveco's stacking capacity higher with a new order for straddle carriers |
|
|
Finnish port operator Steveco Oy aims to expand its container handling capacity at the Port of Kotka with a new order for 10 Kalmar EDRIVE® straddle carriers. The new ESC440W machines will be capable of stacking 1-over-3 high, one container higher than Steveco's straddle carriers currently employed at the Mussalo Container Terminal in Kotka. Delivery of the first units will commence this summer with the final machines expected to arrive in October 2008.
The order further strengthens the two parties’ close relationship as well as solidifies Kalmar's global market leadership as the number one supplier of straddle carriers.
For years, Kalmar and Steveco have worked side-by-side in the Port of Kotka's maintenance area. Kalmar's own service workshop is located next to Steveco's, so daily interaction has guaranteed the continuous operation of the company's machines.
Jouko Kyrola, President of Kalmar Finland, explains:
"The latest order from Steveco is a result of our past success in supporting its existing Kalmar straddle carrier fleet in Kotka. They have turned to Kalmar yet again for reliable, environmentally friendly equipment, which will help them handle the expected influx of containers at Mussalo.
“Another important deciding factor for Steveco was Kalmar's commitment to meet its strict delivery schedule.”
With container traffic on the rise, more and more port terminals are looking for fast and efficient ways to meet the demand. Kyrola continues: “By further heightening its stacking blocks with taller straddle carriers, Steveco has opted to expand its storage capacity in a way that is extremely cost-effective as well as flexible to the overall operation.”
Steveco's request for Kalmar ESC straddle carriers exemplifies its vital need for productive machines that incorporate low operating costs. The units will feature electrically controlled engines, which lower exhaust emissions and reduce fuel consumption - making them eco-friendly as well as commercial viable. Additionally, all of the new units will feature Kalmar's proven 7th generation technology consisting of an enhanced CAN-bus PLC diagnostics system, fly-by-wire controls and directly PLC-controlled engines and AC drives.
The new machines will replace some of the 20 Kalmar straddle carriers already in operation at Mussalo. A selected number of these existing 1-over-2 high straddle carriers will be transferred to Steveco's terminal operations at the Port of Vuosaari in Helsinki after all of the new units are received. Steveco has also commissioned Kalmar for the refurbishment of three Kalmar CSC 340 straddle carriers for its Helsinki operations. [>> More<<] |
